"I'm not like you, I just don't like eating healthy."

I hear some version of this very often from my clients. It brings to mind the notion that no one knows what anyone else is going through. So I thought I'd share my story for anyone interested!

I've had a headache my entire life. 1 year out of college, I'd had a stomach ache for 7 years. Neither of these symptoms seemed affected by anything - not medications, not what I ate or even if I ate, my head and stomach both hurt. A neurologist had no answers for my head, and my PCP never asked what I ate, and because she knew I was a vegetarian she assumed I was healthy and told me to take some probiotics. The probiotics didn't help at all because at that time my problem was much bigger than those little beneficial bugs could handle.

I used to go back and forth between pop-tarts and cereal for breakfast. I would snack on oreos dipped in cool whip, and sometimes my dinner would be a pint of ice cream. I was not a healthy eater, and I was also not healthy. But because I was a normal weight and a vegetarian I was labeled healthy and mostly my health concerns were brushed off by doctors.

Yoga helped a bit, and acupuncture helped a little more. Both relieved my bloating, but only temporarily. The biggest shift came when I changed my diet. My whole life changed. Within 2 weeks I had no stomach pain. After 2 more weeks the bloating was gone. It took years for me to fully heal, but the difference after those first 4 weeks was nothing short of miraculous. This healing journey led me to wanting to share the healing power of real, whole foods with as many people as possible. You don't have to live with chronic pain or discomfort, you can give your body the nutrients it needs to heal!
